Roaring Fork Residence

Roaring Fork Residence is a contemporary mountain home located in Carbondale, Colorado, designed by Chicago-based architecture firm Northworks. The home showcases uncompromised views of Mt. Sopris from all interior living spaces.

The design of the house commenced in the summer of 2020, with construction taking place in 2021 and completed in 2022. A defining feature of the residence is the expansive wall of glass in the living room, framing the mountain vista and extending elegantly into a spacious covered outdoor living area. Natural stained wood lends warmth and texture throughout the interiors, balanced by elements that reflect a subtle industrial aesthetic. Concrete-look tile accents the entryway and mudroom, while the primary bathroom features a bespoke concrete vanity with integrated basins. A freestanding, modern wood-burning stove preserves the home’s connection to the views, avoiding any visual obstructions.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The completion of this home marked a meaningful return for the owners, symbolizing a new chapter as returned to the valley after years spent living in Denver. The homeowners witnessed their vision for the residence take shape with generously covered outdoor spaces, a spacious kitchen tailored for entertainment, a dedicated home office, and a private guest suite to accommodate long-term visitors. As both homeowners are landscape architects by trade, they embraced a firsthand role, shaping not only the interior spaces but also the surrounding landscape to reflect their personal vision.
